Advice on Payment Rates for Illustration
Joe,

I just got offered some work from a gaming company but I have no idea what to charge. Help! How do you figure out rates?

Thanks,
Gabriel Eltaeb

Hi Gabe,

The following prices have been my average rates for gaming companies like White Wolf and Wizards of the Coast. But for a smaller, independent gaming publisher (and if you really want the work badly) they might want you to come down just a little from these rates I've listed. It's up to you though since these are definitely fair rates and I wouldn't want you to undercharge yourself.

Black & White 1/4 page - $45

Black & White half page - $75

Black & White full page - $125

Full color 1/4 page - $125

Full color half page - $300-$500

Full color full page $600 - $800

Covers are usually $800 - $1200

Hope this helps and let me know if you get the work.
Good luck!

Check back here next week for a new Comics 101 column!
